A SCHOOL IN A REGION RICH IN COCOA
The FFS of Nyandong was created in October 5th, 2009 after some village stakeholders were sensitized about the program. The school is now in its second year with a total of 24 students; 17 and 07 in the first and second year respectively.
Fortunate to be found in a typical evergreen forest zone, climatic conditions have permitted the growth of almost every crop. Currently, the school has experimented on tomatoes, cassava, Soya beans and has established and managing a good cocoa nursery; mainly because cocoa is the main cash crop in this area.
Irrespective of the fact that the target groups in the FFS are young people between the ages of 13 to 19, this FFS is
made up of enthusiastic youths between the ages of 18 to 35 years who find it interesting to attend normal classes regularly and diligently like pupils. The school in this academic year has already carried out promotional activities both in and around neighboring villages on local detergent fabrication and transformation of cocoa beans to cocoa butter oil. Through these activities, they have been able to touch in their own small way the lives of close to 150 young, old, male and female villagers alike.
Their future plans are that they should reach to as many people as possible and to help villagers understand that even in rural areas, great self-sustainable rural entrepreneurs can emerge.
